Nepal is situated in Asia, on the southern slopes of the Himalayan mountain ranges. It is a landlocked country located between India to the east, south, and west and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the North. Its territory ranges roughly 812 kilometres from East to West and 150 to 250 kilometers from North to South. The capital is Kathmandu.

Nepal, long under the rule of inherited prime ministers preferring a policy of isolation, remained closed to the outside world until a revolution in 1950 reestablished the crown’s expert in 1951; the country gained admission to the United Nations in 1955. In 1991 the kingdom established a multiparty parliamentary system. In 2008, however, after a decade long period of violence and raging negotiation with a strong Maoist insurrection, the monarchy was softened, and Nepal was declared a democratic republic.

Impacted between two giants, India and China, Nepal seeks to keep a balance between the two countries in its foreign policy, and thus to remain independent. A factor that contributes enormously to the geopolitical importance of the country is the fact that a strong Nepal can deny China access to the rich Gangetic Plain; Nepal thus marks the southern boundary of the Chinese sphere north of the Himalayas in Asia.

Bardia National Park – 4 Days

The Royal Bardia National Park was initially a Royal hunting reserve. It was in 1976 that it was gazette as Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve with an area of only 368 sq. KM in 1982, It was renamed as Royal Bardia Wildlife Reserve Which also included the Babai River Valley. It was only in 1988 that is was granted a status of National Park in order to preserve the dwindling species of rare ecosystem, including flora and fauna, particularly the tiger and its other prey species. This park is the largest and most undisturbed wilderness area in the terai providing excellent habitat for most of the endangered species of wildlife and birds. The park now covers an area of 968 sq. KM. It was only 1994 basic facilities existed for independent visitors. It has extensive and varied wildlife-all endangered rhinoceros, Wild elephants, The Royal Bengal Tiger, Swamp deer, Black buck, Gharial Crocodile, Gangetic Dolphins.

More than thirty different mammals, over 400 species of birds, many snakes, lizards, and fish have been sighted and recorded in the park’s forest, grassland and river habitats.

Among these include, Langur monkey, common leopard, Jungle cat, fishing at, large and small Indian civets, mongoose, hyena, wild dog, jackal. Sloth bear, otter, porcupine, bandicoots, blue bull (Nilgai), Sambar deer, hog deer, barking dear, wild boar etc. This park is one of the best place to view the most magnificent of cats, The Royal Bengal Tigers. The chances are almost 80% depending on season.

Everest Mountain Flight

Morning for an hour’s worth of spectacular mountain scenery. As the aircraft lifts up and heads towards the east, passengers do not have to wait too long to find out what is in store for them. There they are – the mountains, as they always have been.

First to their far-left visitors see Gosaithan, also called Shisha Pangma, standing at the majestic height of 8013m. Immediately to the right of Gosaithan, there appears Dorje Lakpa (6966m), a mountain that looks like the number 8 lying down and covered with snow. To the right of Dorje Lakpa is Phurbi-Ghyachu, which looms over the Kathmandu Valley.

As the plane moves along, the mountains come closer and closer. Next on the vision is Choba-Bhamare, the smallest one of the lots at 5933m but singularly stubborn as it has never been climbed. Then appears the mountain that is not only prominent in sight but also in spiritually – Gauri-Shankar. Lord Shiva and his consort Gauri are said to protect this mountain, at the proud height of 7134m and the summit had a history of unsuccessful attempts till 1979. Gauri-Shankar is sharp and very conspicuous during the mountain flight.

As the plane moves towards the land of the rising sun, the eastern Himalaya a succession of glorious mountains follow. Melungtse, a Plateau – like mountain stretches up to 7023m, Chugimago at 6297m is still a virgin, waiting to be climbed. At 6956m, Numbur mountain resembles a breast, maternal source in the sky providing pure milk to the Shepas of the Solu Khumbu. Next is Karyolung, an intensely white mountain that at 6511m gleams with the rising sun. Cho-Oyu is the eighth highest mountain in the world. Reaching a height of 8201m, it appears stunningly beautiful from the aircraft.

Next on the menu is Gyanchungkang, at a majestic height of 7952m, considered an extremely difficult climb. To the right of Gyanchungkang is Pumori (7161m). As passengers get closer to Everest. there’s Nuptse (7855m), which means West Peak, signifying its direction from Everest. Finally, there’s Everest (8848m) itself, known as Sagarmatha by the Nepalese and Chomolungma by the Tibetans. Much has already been written about Everest, but to actually witness it face to face during a mountain flight is something else. Even while it looms there in front of the eyes, it remains an enigma, this highest spot on earth.
